An inside source in New York said this morning that the Yankees are in the process of enticing Cliff Lee away from the Texas Rangers.

Lee, who had an amazing 7-0 post season record before losing two games in the World Series, has been on the radar of several major league teams. However, the Rangers are not likely going to let Lee go without a fight.

Ranger’s owner Nolan Ryan has already said that he is not going to allow the Yankees to swoop in and snatch his star pitcher. Ryan has been rumored to be working on a far more lucrative deal for Lee that will be presented soon.

However, the Yankees have far more financial might than the Rangers, even with Ryan at the helm. They are well-known for paying pitchers exorbitant amounts of money for their services.

Brian Cashman from the Yankees has already slipped out of the winter meetings in Las Vegas for a trip to see Cliff Lee. However, the full cash value of the contract will likely not be revealed right away.

Cashman is well-known for his showmanship and will often leave the players wondering until a phone call some days later.

No matter what they have to offer, the Yankees will have to earn the right to have Cliff Lee in the club. Nolan Ryan is desperate to keep the hurler, hoping that his team can repeat again next year and possibly win the World Series after a disappointing loss this year.
