All over the northern US states new winter storm warnings and watches have popped up today, leading to fear that holiday travel could be difficult.

Just in time for the Thanksgiving season, massive winter storms are scheduled to hit the Plains states as well other states in the northern US. This means that many travelers can expect delays and even cancellations while attempting to visit loved ones.

The conditions are expected to start worsening on Wednesday night and continue through the weekend. Snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected in many areas, all of which can ground planes.

This is bad news for the travelers who are hoping to jump on planes this week and travel to points all over the US. Airlines are suggesting that passengers call ahead to find out if there are any delays before they make their way to the airport.

Some travelers have decided to speed up their holiday traveling plans by leaving early. Airlines reported this morning that after the news reports on the weather conditions they were flooded with calls by people who wanted to change their reservations to an earlier date.

For those that choose to remain on their scheduled flights there could be a mass of delays waiting for them when they arrive. There is also a very good chance that their planes could be diverted to other airports for safety reasons.

Industry experts have said that making plans ahead of time can make the situation easier. Making reservations at hotels where connecting flights will land could mean the difference between a comfortable bed and a hard airport chair for sleeping.
