According to new reports released today, more US citizens are traveling to Cuba at the current time than at any other time in the history of the dictator controlled country.

Travel to Cuba has increased several times over in the past year due to loosening restrictions on travel to the area as well as the decreased problems in the tiny country. Currently Cuba is considered a hot travel spot for many seeking sun and relaxation.

However, the US is keeping a close eye on the overall travel situation to Cuba. Besides being a hotbed of tourism, it is also a well-known place for criminal activity. Smugglers often travel to Cuba to bring back large caches of illegal cigars as well as narcotics that are very prevalent in the country.

However, the problems for Cuba seem to have abated in recent years as Fidel Castro has handed over power in the country due to his failing health. Castro continues to be a well-known figure all over Cuba and is actually believed to control the country behind the veil of his brother.

According to travel agencies, travelers are booking more weeklong travel packages to Cuba than most other small countries. This is considered a great thing for the Cuban tourism industry that has been suffering in recent years due to the massive drug trade that has limited travel.

Estimates show that nearly $1.5 million in travel funds will be spent before the end of the year by those from the US traveling to Cuba.
