A New York ABC Affiliate has officially suspended weather anchor Heidi Jones after she allegedly reported an attempted rape to police that turned out to be false.

Jones filed a police report on November 24th alleging that a Hispanic man had attempted to rape her. She claimed that he drug her away from the walking path and tried to rape her before being scared away by a passerby.

Jones then reported that the same man accosted her outside of her apartment building and threatened her with a knife. However, the story started to unravel when the Daily News started to ask about potential witnesses. Jones first said that the man who scared away her attacker in the park never said who he was.

It was revealed later that Jones had fabricated the entire story to gain sympathy for her professional and personal unhappiness. Family members said that Jones was having relationship problems and was not happy with her employment.

Now Jones will be facing charges by the NYPD of filing a false police report. The station where she acts as weather anchor has suspended her without pay pending a full investigation into the allegations.

Jones’ attorney has said that she will not enter a guilty plea to the criminal charges and is asking that everyone reserve judgment until all evidence in the case has been presented.

Her co-workers say that they are outraged over the betrayal by Jones who was protected by them after her attack claims.
