Facebook Blamed for Asthma Attack
By Christopher WalkerNov 19 2010
Facebook is often blamed for many things, and this morning the Silicon Valley Company is facing allegations that it caused an asthma attack.
According to reports, a young man broke up with his girlfriend. She promptly removed him from her Facebook friends list and started adding other young men soon after the breakup. When the young man witnessed all of this he had a massive asthma attack that sent him to the hospital.
Now many are saying that Facebook cannot be blamed for the actions of another. However, the family of the young man is pointing their fingers directly at the massive social network.
They have said that their site allowed the young man to witness incidents involving his former girlfriend and therefore caused the asthma attack.
However, this is not the standard health case that could lead to the massive lawsuits that have become popular in the world today. There is little evidence that Facebook could have prevented such a problem, especially since they did not cause the breakup to begin with.
According to researchers who have studied the case, the young man had asthma attacks each time he logged in with a new account and saw what his former girlfriend was doing. He has now been told to steer clear of Facebook and his attacks have stopped.
Defenders of the social network have said that the psychological stress that the man was feeling was based on his former girlfriend’s actions and he could have solved the problem by avoiding her profile.
