Elizabeth Edwards Ends Cancer Treatment
By Christopher WalkerDec 7 2010
Elizabeth Edwards, estranged wife of US Rep John Edwards, announced today that she will no longer seek treatment for cancer.
Mrs. Edwards has been a champion among women for several years. She first started battling cancer in 2008 when it was discovered that she had metastatic breast cancer. She was skyrocketed to fame when it was found that her husband, John Edwards, was having an affair that ended with a pregnancy.
From that point on Mrs. Edwards became a celebrity darling in the media. Countless interviews were conducted asking how she handled the news and the new cancer treatments that she was dealing with. She appeared to be healthy and happy but the doctors said that things have taken a turn for the worse.
Today Edwards announced that she would no longer seek any kind of treatment for her disease. The cancer has started to spread throughout her body and has already reached her liver. Her doctors suggested that she suspend all treatment to improve her quality of life in her final days.
Medical experts have said that most patients in Edward’s condition do not last past 12 months and often decline much faster. Chemotherapy can delay death but it will do little to actually prevent the cancer from spreading any faster.
Edwards was hopeful that the months of treatment she endured had made a difference but those hopes were dashed with her doctor’s statements. Now she says that she will spend her remaining time with her family close.
