Chaz Bono to Feature Documentary on OWN Network
By Brian ScottJan 16 2011
Chaz Bono, son of the late Sonny Bono and Cher, announced today that he would allow his documentary, Becoming Chaz, to air on the OWN network, the new network started by US talk show queen Oprah Winfrey.
The story of Chaz Bono is one of transformation. Chaz started out as Chastity Bono, the daughter of Sonny and Cher. However, early last year Chastity underwent the last stages of a sexual reassignment operation and became a man.
This is one of the most public viewings of the radical operation that has ever been seen. For years Chaz Bono dressed as a man and was in a relationship with a woman. He said that he knew when he was a teenager that he was meant to be a man and it took him years to find the courage to make the change.
Cher announced that she was thrilled that Chaz had made the transformation and become the person that he was meant to be. She was with her daughter, soon to be son, when the operation took place, as well as his longtime companion.
Now Chaz is an advocate for those that are living in the wrong body. He spends his days working with those who wish to have a sex change operation, helping them overcome the emotional issues that rage through a person that is dealing with such a change.
The documentary is expected to air sometime in the Spring when the new lineup for the OWN network is announced.
