Pictsweet Co., a well-known firm that packages and sells frozen vegetables for large retailers has issued a voluntary recall today on several products over fears that they may contain glass fragments.

According to the company statement, over one ton of the mixtures, which contain peas and carrots, may have been tainted with broken glass. As such the company has decided to recall the packages to prevent injuries.

Pictsweet Co. is known as a brand jobber in the frozen foods industry. They produce the products and then package them under various names. Their two largest customers are Kroger’s and Wal-Mart and each store sells millions of packages of the frozen foods each year.

The FDA has said that the Pictsweet Co. issued the recall voluntarily and is not currently under investigation for any violations within the food industry. The company issued a statement that said that 2400 pounds of peas and carrots could have been tainted with glass fragments when a production process failed.

While there have been no injuries reported with the products, Pictsweet has said that the precautionary measure is necessary to prevent consumer ingestion. Glass fragments in food can cause severe stomach pain as well as bleeding and digestive issues.

Pictsweet has asked that all consumers who bought the products return them to the store of purchase for a full refund. Consumers have been warned against attempting to eat the products because the glass fragments could be virtually invisible to the naked eye among the ice crystals found in the frozen foods.
