The Metrodome, the home field for the Minnesota Vikings, will not be able to host the New York Giants on Monday for their scheduled game due to the inflatable roof of the stadium collapsing under the weight of Saturday’s snow fall.

The Metrodome is a unique football stadium as it features an inflatable roof that can be inflated or deflated as needed. The stadium owners were hoping that the roof would hold up under the pressure of the snow being fully inflated but they were disappointed come Saturday night.

With over two feet of snow falling in the area on Saturday, the roof gave way and has further delayed the game that was already postponed due to the snow. At this time the officials have not said if there is any damage to the massive roof but they did say that there were no injuries.

NFL officials are exploring other options to host the game, including the Minnesota University field which is also domed but managed to hold up under the weight of the snow. The officials plan to make their formal announcement today about the location of the game.

The Vikings have been looking for a new home for several years. The Metrodome has been the home for the team since 1982 and has fallen into disrepair. The team has been calling for the city to build them a new stadium as they have done for the Minnesota Twins, the major league baseball team for the state.
