Space Travel Becomes Private
By Terry GreenDec 10 2010
Yesterday morning the first private space travel capsule was launched and orbited the earth before landing safely inside the US.
Space travel has become a private enterprise now that the US has ended the space shuttle period for NASA. The struggling government body has been dealing with lower budgets and shrinking success rates for the past two decades. Their lack of forward movement to other planets and so on has created a shortfall in support of the expensive space program.
Now the government has mandated that space travel can become a commercial venture and several companies are vying for the top spot. The first test was yesterday and it was successful but there is a long way to go before the actual passengers are allowed to get on board.
The contractors who for years have built their products for NASA are now out in the cold and they are using their talents to work on the commercial end of things. Allowing common people to travel into space for certain periods of time has been the stuff of science fiction for hundreds of years.
But now it has become a reality and there are many who are lining up to be the first people in space.
But there are many who are considering such ventures to be wasteful. Passengers on board commercial flights into space can expect to pay somewhere in the area of $100,000 for the flight that may only last a matter of minutes and could end with disaster.
