US-based network AMC announced today that they have renewed their new show, The Walking Dead, for a second season, tipping their hats to the success of the zombie hit.

The Walking Dead, based on the award-winning comic book, is much like the other zombie fare in the world. A new disease has struck that kills within minutes. But the person soon awakens and becomes a zombie and wants to do nothing but eat the living.

The series is based around a small band of survivors who are dealing with the stresses of life on a planet controlled by the dead. Critics have said that the show is the perfect blend of drama and action, with a little humor thrown in for good measure.

But the show has become such an overwhelming success for AMC that they are scrambling to keep things in perspective. They have already renewed the show for another season and announced during Sunday’s finale that the DVD of the first season will be ready for pre-order this month.

AMC is already well-known for their action-packed and drama filled series. They have two other major hits currently, Breaking Bad and Mad Men, both of which have won multiple Emmy’s since being released.

But AMC has broken new ground with The Walking Dead, experts have said.

“They have managed to take a horror movie and bring it to the small screen and remove all of the little things that annoy die hard horror fans,” one critic said on his blog.
