Cyber Monday Tops $1 Billion in Sales
By Robert DavisDec 1 2010
ComScore announced today that Cyber Monday sales in the US topped $1 billion in total sales, breaking all previous records.
This is good news for the online retailers that were hoping all the hype would lead to increased sales and customer counts. Some of the largest online retailers reported that they were seeing sales that were three or four times their average for this time of year.
This leads many to believe that online shopping is becoming a normal tradition for many shoppers. The attraction of Cyber Monday, according to the hype, was the ability to stay home, avoid the lines, and still find all the best deals for their holiday shopping needs.
To celebrate the day many online retailers were rolling out some of the hottest deals of the year. But many took it one step further and offered free shipping on thousands of items. This is a major shot in the arm as the problem of shipping costs has always been an issue for the online shopping venues.
Now the online retailers need to keep it going for the rest of the year. There are still many shopping days left and the online venues need to continue to attract buyers to their sites.
Most are continuing with the deals while others have decided to offer guaranteed shipping to ensure that all packages arrive before holiday.
With Cyber Monday a hit, retailers are planning to keep the tradition going for the coming years.
