Megamind Derails Unstoppable

There was a surprise upset in the US box office this past weekend as the animated hit Megamind continued to top the list even with Unstoppable, the Denzel Washington thriller, hitting the screen.

Earlier in the weekend all signs pointed to Unstoppable taking the top honors and defeating the animated film. However, once all the numbers were tallied Megamind remained on top.

This is no surprise to some experts who believe that kid friendly movies are always going to make the difference in the opening weekends. Parents will often take their children and movies like Unstoppable are just not what they consider to be the best viewing for the young ones.

Megamind surprised everyone though with the high box office receipts in its opening weekend. It did not break any records, but it certainly made a good show and has remained at the top since its release.

Still, Unstoppable, with Denzel Washington at the helm, was considered the only movie set for release that could stop the animated feature. The film has garnered a lot of support from fans and critics who have marveled at the non-stop action sequences and powerful performances from the lead actors.

What will happen in the coming week remains is anyone’s guess. There are many who believe that Unstoppable will still manage to take the top spot away from Megamind. This is quite possible as the action flick is starting to bring in some bigger numbers and may be building up steam as the week moves on.
