New eReader to Hit the Shelves
By Lucy MitchellNov 8 2010
Hanvon announced this morning that they will launch their first eReader machine to the general public.
The new system will feature a color E-Ink screen, something that goes beyond the norm for the other eReaders on the market at this point.
eReader screens have been black and white, historically, much like the Kindle, the popular device from Amazon. However, Hanvon has taken the steps necessary to bring color to the devices, which is the first step in creating a viable advertising market for the devices.
However, the E-Ink screen is said to be far less advanced than the other offerings currently on the market. The iPad, Kindle and Nook all use LCD screens. While the iPad and Nook are color and the Kindle just black and white, they all offer a crisp read out and display.
Early reviews of the new device by Hanvon have been positive with one negative. The display is said to be muted, with dull colors and faded picture quality. This could prove to be a major downfall for the device in a market where quality of the display is considered one of the most important aspects.
Like most of the eReadersĀ on the market, the Hanvon device will allow users to download and store over a thousand books. It will also feature a full music player as well as wireless internet for downloading books and music when the user is away from home.
Hanvon has not released a specific price for the device as of today.
