Nintendo has officially announced that they will not cut the price of the Wii for the holiday season today.

The report came as the busy holiday shopping season is set to begin. Over the past few years companies like Nintendo and Sony have slashed the prices on their systems during the holiday shopping season.

However, this year seems to be different. Nintendo Wii stands at the same $199 price that was set last year. Sony did a similar price slash last year with the popular Playstation 2 system. However, they have increased the price of their popular Playstation 3 model as well as the new Playstation Move system.

Nintendo has been criticized for failing to drop the price this year. With the tough economic times still troubling many US citizens, there has been a tremendous outcry in the public over the cost. Nonetheless, Nintendo has remained firm on their stance for pricing of the system.

Nintendo has released a new version of the Wii this year that is red in honor of the 25th anniversary of the ultra popular Mario Brothers game from the early days of the company. The new system has been released to stores the world over.

Nintendo issued a statement on the Nintendo Wii price “Of course we are not saying it will never happen, but we are not thinking of it in the near future.”

Sony has not released a statement as to a possible price reduction for their systems as yet.
