As per a report today released by Reuters, almost one third of American population will become diabetic if they continue to avoid exercise and gain weight. This revelation was made today by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

They also said that the numbers were most likely to rise as the population grows older. Americans need to change their habits or else this trend is likely to accelerate.

According to the estimates made by the agency, the number of diabetics in United States both in the undiagnosed and the diagnosed category which are now at one in ten adults will rise in 2050 somewhere around one in five or one in three adults.

This study was carried out by James Boyle and his colleagues at the CDC. According to the CDC diabetes expert Ann Albright these numbers are very alarming and we should do all we can to make a change in the course of type 2 diabetes.

It is important that programs that have helped in making lifestyle changes should be made more freely available. There can be devastating effects of this situation otherwise.

According to the agency the number of adults in the US who have diabetes is about 24 million and the main reason for this is lack of exercise and poor diet. Most of the diabetics fall in the type 2 category.

The team of researchers took into account the census numbers to make a conclusion. According to them this shows that the population is aging rapidly and thus the high risk group is also increasing.

Diabetes is the main reason for blindness in adults who are below the age of 75 and is the seventh major cause of death in the country.
